"Score as many points as you can with one life"
—Description from Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions.

Waves is a game mode first introduced as a mini-game in Project Gotham Racing 4, the mini-game itself is generally referred to among fans simply as Geometry Wars: Waves.

It was later included in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 as one of the six main game modes. It has now become a staple game mode and is also notable for statistically being the fastest to either fail or complete on average.

Waves makes its return in Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, and while it does not appear in Adventure Mode in any way, it is still present in Classic mode, where it is identical to the original.

Gameplay[]

The player starts out with only One life, and is given no bombs, there is no way to gain either lives or bombs, so once the player dies, it's Game over.

The gameplay of waves is actually very similar to Evolved, with enemies spawning around the map randomly, However, there are no cases of Enemies spawning in the corners nor do they spawn in a circle around the player.

The main difference is instead rapidly spawning lines of Darts. These spawn either horizontally or vertically, at first they cover roughly half of the wall they spawn from, later in the game they start covering the whole side. The frequency at which these waves spawn increases constantly, and will eventually spawn from all sides simultaneously, essentially making most games last no more than 1 minute.
